When Obedience Becomes Worship

There was a moment in my life where I didn’t want to be here anymore.

After swallowing over 70 pills, I fully expected not to wake up. But instead of silence, I had a very real encounter with God.

He sat with me. And I heard Him say:

“Daughter, it is not your time yet.”

That moment didn’t just save my life — it shifted it. It became the turning point in my journey toward holistic healing and learning what it truly means to live a life of biblical obedience.

Obedience Begins at Rock Bottom

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV) 🔗 BibleGateway – Psalm 34:18

I didn’t find God at church. I found Him in the depths of despair. Not when I was thriving, but when I was broken.

This was the beginning of learning that obedience to God doesn’t start with perfection — it starts with surrender.

From Religion to Relationship

In the months that followed, I had to unlearn a lot.

I realized I had been performing for God instead of partnering with Him. I thought checking religious boxes was enough.

But true obedience is born out of relationship — not religion.

What It Means to Live a Life of Worship

“Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.”
— Romans 12:1 (MSG) 🔗 BibleGateway – Romans 12

This verse changed my life. It made me realize that worship isn’t a moment — it’s a mindset.
True worship is obedience in action: how you care for your body, how you steward your purpose, how you show up on the days you don’t feel like it.

This is what gave birth to 🔗 Your Wellness Homegirl — a movement that centers faith, fitness, and holistic wellness as acts of worship.

When Obedience Feels Frustrating

These last two years have tested me. I’ve had countless opportunities… and yet felt like I was spinning my wheels. I was doing everything and accomplishing nothing.
So I stopped.

I took time off work to pray, to sit still, and to seek God’s direction. And I heard Him say:

“Social media is the answer.”

That moment broke me. Because I realized I was asking God to bless the work I chose, instead of obeying the assignment He gave me.

Obedience Over Sacrifice

“What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice.”
— 1 Samuel 15:22 (NLT) 🔗 BibleGateway – 1 Samuel 15:22

I had to admit that I’d been skipping the hard part.
I was trying to build step 5 without ever honoring step 1.
But biblical obedience doesn’t wait for convenience — it moves when God speaks.

Faith Over Feelings

Since saying yes to God’s call to create content, I’ve faced spiritual warfare.
I’ve wrestled with fear. Insecurity. Resistance.

I’ve wondered why God would choose someone like me.
But I’m learning that faith is not the absence of fear — it’s the choice to obey in spite of it.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
— Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) 🔗 BibleGateway – Hebrews 11:1

Obedience Is Worship

This blog — and my 🔗 YouTube channel — aren’t just projects. They’re offerings.
This is what worship looks like for me right now:
→ Choosing consistency over convenience
→ Putting faith over feelings
→ Laying down my plans to pick up God’s

And that’s what I’ll be sharing with you here.
Raw. Real. Unpolished. Worship.

Reflection Questions:

For your journal, quiet time, or small group:

  1. Have I been giving God performance or obedience?

  2. What step have I been avoiding?

  3. What would change in my life if I truly believed obedience is worship?

Final Thoughts

If you’re feeling stuck, scared, or unsure…
Know this: your obedience still matters.
Even if it’s quiet. Even if it’s shaky. Even if it doesn’t make sense yet.

This is still worship.
And it still counts.
